Wesley Cottage is the former home of Digory and Elizabeth Isbell who entertained John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, on some of his visits to Cornwall in the mid 18th century. Digory built two extra rooms onto his cottage for the use of Mr Wesley and his preachers. By the late 1940's the cottage had fallen into disrepair. It was purchased, renovated, and opened as a Methodist museum and place of Pilgrimage on 24th May 1950. Many interesting items of Wesleyana are contained in the cottage which is alos believed to be the smallest methodist preaching place in the world. The 50th Anniverary Wesley Day celebrations will be held on Sunday 21st May 2000 | ||||||||||||||||||||
